2020.10.02 We Are Math Champions

Why is math such a basic skill? Mathematical logic and the ability solve problems is core to successful daily life. Seibo puts great effort into building core math skills. Not only doing math drills, but also considering problems from the perspective of number logic. Seibo teachers don’t start by asking “Who knows the answer?” Instead Seibo teachers ask many questions and invite students to investigate the problem. This basic style results in students having confidence, fun as well as calculation and mathematical skills. Math is a way to investigate the world. Recently the Japan Mathematics Testing Association selected Kyoto Seibo Elementary as the best among 700 elementary schools. Our long history doing the Math Proficiency Test and consistently high pass rate was mentioned as the reason for receiving this award. Thanks to our students’ strong basic math skills, other studies such as data analysis and programming also go well.

なぜ数学は基本的な学習スキルといわれるのでしょうか？ 数理論理学と問題を解決する能力は、日常生活に成功をもたらす大事な力だからです。 聖母では、子どもたちの数学スキルの構築に力を注いでいます。 計算問題に取り組むだけでなく、数の論理の観点から問題に取り組みます。 先生たちは、「この問題の答えがわかる人？」と尋ねることから始めません。 代わりに、多くの質問をし、子どもたちに問題を調査するように勧めます。 この基本的なスタイルにより、子どもたちは自信を持って楽しく、計算や数学のスキルを身に付けることができます。 数学は世界を調査する方法です。 先日、日本数学検定協会は、全国700校の小学校の中から京都聖母学院小学校を最優秀賞である文部科学大臣賞に選びました。 算数検定に取り組んできた長い歴史と一貫して高い合格率をあげてきたことが受賞の理由です。 子どもたちが持つ高い数学のスキルは、データ分析やプログラミングなどの他の学習にも大いに役立つに違いありません。
