Long and short

Recently the Cosmos class learned that notes with the same sound (do, re, mi) can sometimes be different.

First they listened carefully to long and short notes on the piano. If it was a long note they said “long” and stretched their arms out. If it was a short note they said “short” and held their hands close together.

Next they looked at photos of their friends and teachers who have the same names. They had lots of fun finding all the differences between them.

Just like people have a first name and a last name, notes have a note name and a note length too. Everyone had fun clapping, tapping, and finding new ways to play different note lengths.
