Why we move so much in Sun Class!

Every Tuesday is Gymnastics Day in Sun Class! Our Sun kids usually look forward to exciting obstacle courses that challenge them to climb, craw, balance and explore different ways of moving but did you know that sometimes, keeping things simple can be just as exciting?

For this particular gymnastics session, we slowed things down and focused on feeling grounded. With our socks and shoes off, the Sun kids explored movement in a whole new way by paying attention to how their bodies moved and how their feet felt against the floor.

It was Animal movement day!

Soon, our room was filled with different animals (bears, crabs, frogs, snakes, ducks and kangaroos)! The Sun class loved pretending to be like these different animals and of course their favorite was running from one end of the room to the other end. Every movement challenged them in a different way, helping build strength, balance, coordination, stamina and confidence without them realizing they were learning. 

Walking barefoot is more than just fun! Feeling the floor beneath their feet helps children develop body awareness, balance and the small muscles that support healthy movement. It is amazing how something as simple as taking off their shoes can create such a meaningful learning experience. The best part? Movement doesn’t just help growing bodies – it also supports growing minds. Active play encourages focus, problem-solving, confidence and emotional regulation. So the next time you see our SIP kids come hopping like a frog, slithering like a snake, etc. You will know there was a bit of science, a little bit of learning, and a whole lot of fun behind every step!
