2021.01.27 ABOUT CORONA IN 2021

We are very hopeful that 2021 will be a better and brighter year than 2020, and we are sure it will be. Although we want to make a very clear plan for 2021 events, the reality is that Kyoto Seibo Elementary will need to watch the corona virus situation in each month and make necessary adjustments according to the situation. Unfortunately, it looks like we will be affected by the corona virus to some degree throughout 2021. As principal, this is my individual analysis of how 2021 may flow. I think the infection rate will remain constantly high until spring. Even in spring and summer, the infection rate may not reduce greatly due to the government’s need to keep the national economy open. However, the warmer months will make it easier to open windows and spend time outdoors. Vaccine distribution will begin in spring but it will take many months to vaccinate even half of the population. Therefore, the effect of vaccine immunity will not be significant in our society for many months. It seems quite clear we will be wearing masks and taking measures throughout 2021 as the rate of infection ebbs and flows. The degree of apprehension among parents about the corona virus varies very much. Some parents feel online learning is inferior and a burden to family members, especially when both parents are working. They want us to keep the school open as possible. Other parents want the school to switch to online learning as soon as infection rates in Kansai rise. From a labor/time perspective, it is impossible for teachers to do both a full classroom program and a full online program at the same time. We are trialing various hybrid systems. Generally speaking though, compared to online learning, attending school is better for elementary age students from the perspective of academic studies, social, physical and emotional health, especially during a period of many months or even a year. We will watch the situation very carefully, implement all necessary safety measures, follow government guidelines and navigate the best possible way through 2021. We will do our best for each child’s safety and education every day.

2021年が2020年よりも良く、明るい年になることを私たちはとても期待しており、そうなると確信しています。 2021年の行事をしっかりと計画を立てたいと思いますが、実際には、京都聖母学院小学校は毎月コロナウイルスの状況を監視し、状況に応じて必要な調整を行う必要があります。残念ながら、2021年はコロナウイルスの影響をある程度受けるようです。これは2021年がどのように流れるかについての私の個人的な分析ですが、感染率は春までは高いのではないかと思っています。春や夏でも、政府が経済活動を開放し続ける必要があるため、感染率は大幅に低下しない可能性があります。ただし、暖かい季節は窓を開けて屋外でも過ごしやすくなります。ワクチンの配布は春に始まりますが、人口の半分がワクチンを接種するには何ヶ月もかかります。したがって、ワクチン免疫の効果は、私たちの社会ではしばらくは期待できません。感染率が低下するまで、2021年を通してマスクを着用して対策を講じることは重要でしょう。コロナウイルスに対する各家庭の不安程度は異なります。一部の家庭は、特に両親とも働いている場合、オンライン学習は充分ではなく負担もあるため、学校をできるだけ開いたままにしておくことを望んでいます。しかし、一部の家庭は、関西の感染率が上昇したらすぐに学校をオンライン学習に切り替えることを望んでいます。先生方の勤務時間のなかで、完全な教室プログラムと完全なオンラインプログラムの両方を同時に行うことは不可能です。現在、私たちはさまざまなハイブリッドシステムについて検討しています。しかし、一般的に言えば、オンライン学習と比較して、一定期間、実際に学校に通って学ぶことは、学術研究、社会的、身体的、精神的な健康の観点から小学生にとってより良いです。私たちは状況を注意深く監視し、必要な安全対策を実施し、政府のガイドラインに従い、2021年まで可能な限り最善の方法でナビゲートします。私たちは毎日、子どもたちの安全と教育のために最善を尽くします。
