2021.12.07 HALF 講堂朝礼 – MERRY CHRISTMAS

When the corona virus first spread throughout Japan, there was a sense that we should brace for a short pandemic, after which we could return to normal lifestyles. As we finish the second year of the pandemic, it is now clear that the pandemic will not end but evolve. Therefore, we cannot consider simply switching things back to how they used to be any time soon. Thanks to vaccines, treatments and accumulating immunity, we are sure that a restrictions in our daily activities will gradually reduce over time. However, it is more appropriate to think that now is a new normal, a new zero base, and we build a new future school life going forward. We used to regularly hold all school assemblies in the school hall. During the past two years we switched to television assemblies with students watching from their classrooms. Now we are holding half school assemblies in the hall. This morning Years 1-3 gathered in the hall for an assembly. For Years 1-2 students it was their first experience. Girls and boys arrived in lines quietly. Standing in lines, we prayed, listened to a hymn and bible reading. Finally, students sat down and I spoke to them about the Christian meaning of Christmas and shared some memories of Christmas in Australia, a summer Christmas style. Students’ manners were excellent. It was hard to believe it was the first experience for most of them. Finally, each class quietly returned to their classroom with their teacher. From my heart I praised the students’ efforts and manners. I share this story with you in today’s blog.

コロナウイルスが最初に日本中に蔓延したとき、私たちは短いパンデミックに備えなければなりませんでした。その後、私たちは一旦通常に近い生活に戻ることができましたが、パンデミックの２年目、パンデミックは終わらず、ウイルスの変化は継続することが明らかになりました。したがって、すぐに以前の状態に戻すことは考えられません。ワクチン、治療、免疫力の蓄積のおかげで、私たちの日常生活の制限は時間の経過とともに徐々に減少すると確信しています。しかし、今は新しい普通、新しいゼロベースであると考えるのがより適切であり、私たちは新しい学校生活の様式を築かなければなりません。私たちは今まで全校児童で講堂に集まり、朝礼や集会を定期的に開催していました。しかし、過去2年間は、教室へのテレビ放送に切り替えました。現在は、講堂で半分ずつの（高学年・低学年）朝礼を行っています。今朝、1〜3年生が朝礼のために講堂に集まりました。 1〜2年生にとっては、初めての経験でした。女の子も男の子も静かに並んで集まりました。静かに整列し、姿勢よく立って、祈り、聖歌の演奏と聖書の朗読を聞きました。それが終わると、子どもたちは静かに座って、クリスマスのキリスト教の意味についてや、夏のクリスマススタイルであるオーストラリアでのわたしのクリスマスの思い出を共有しました。子どもたちの朝礼に臨む態度は大変素晴らしかったです。ほとんどの児童にとって初めての経験であるとは信じがたいことでした。朝礼が終わると、各クラスの子どもたちは先生と一緒に静かに教室に戻りました。子どもたちの今日のがんばりとマナーを心から賞賛しました。今日のブログでみなさんにもお伝えしたいと思います。
