2020.11.27 授業参観

It is unusual for Seibo Elementary to have a full day of school on Saturday. Last Saturday we had a full day of school for a very good reason. It was open day for parents to view classes. It was the first time parents were able to view classes this year due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19. So, there was a great deal of interest from parents to see how classes are progressing. For Year 1 parents it was especially interesting and we noticed a lot of fathers coming to view classes, too. Ensuring safety is always the priority so various special measures were implemented regarding ventilation and distance. One of the measures was dividing viewing times according to odd and even student numbers. This year parents could only view from the hallway. Throughout the day I watched classes and parents’ reactions to the classes they were seeing. As I told teachers at the end of the day, students studied very seriously and politely all day. Teachers taught well and parents went home looking happy and well satisfied. Recently I talked to teachers about how stakeholders assess our school. Internal assessment comes from our education outcomes, future development, as well demonstrating consistent daily quality to students and parents. Saturday was a good day because we were able to show this quality.

聖母学院小学校で土曜日に終日授業を行うのは珍しいことです。先週の土曜日、子どもたちが丸一日学校で過ごすのには理由がありました。保護者の方に授業参観をしていただく日だったのです。 COVID-19による制限により、保護者の方には今年初めてクラスを見学していただきました。ですから、授業がどのように進んでいるのか、保護者の方も大変感心をもっておられました。 1年生の保護者にとっては特に興味深かったのでしょう、たくさんのお父さんがクラスを見に来ておられると感じました。安全の確保は常に最優先であるため、換気と距離に関してさまざまな特別措置が実施されました。対策の1つは、児童の出席番号の奇数と偶数に従って参観時間を分割することでした。また今年は、廊下からの見学のみでお願いしました。私は一日中、子どもたちの様子と、参観してくださっている保護者の皆さんの様子を見て回りました。子どもたちは、最後まで先生の指導に沿って、とても真剣にそして丁寧に勉強しました。教師はよく教え、保護者の皆さんも、幸せそうに満足そうに帰っておられました。私は参観してくださった方々が、私たちの学校をどのように評価しているかについて先生方に話しました。内部評価は、私たちの教育成果、将来の発展、そして子どもたちと保護者に一貫した毎日の質を示すことから得られます。土曜日はこのクオリティを発揮できたよい日でした。
