Did you see the Seibo Elementary Art Festival? The students displayed their imagination and skill. Recently art and art design are becoming key skills for people living in the middle and second half of this century. The word STEAM is becoming famous. STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, Art design and Math. Imagination and design skill are recognized as key skills in problem solving and innovation. In order to create an innovative solution, we need to imagine something new, and then decide how to practically create it. In the past, art was considered something cultural and not connected to the economy. Now, art is considered part of the family of science, math and technology. It is important for students’ future career success. At Kyoto Seibo Elementary, we develop students’ art, design and making skill through our classes. The Art Festival is a chance to show this high level creativity and skill. Did you see the Seibo Elementary Art Festival? You will be surprised. It is super high level.

本校のアートフェスティバルをご覧いただけましたでしょうか？ 想像力豊かな力作が今年もたくさん並びました。近年、アートとアートデザインは、この時代に生きる私たちにとって重要なスキルになりつつあります。 STEAMという言葉も知られるようになりました。STEAMとは、科学、技術、工学、芸術デザイン、数学を意味します。 想像力とデザインスキルは、問題解決や、今はまだない価値ある新しいものの創造に重要な力です。価値ある新しいものを作り出すためには、まず自分の頭で想像し、それを実際に形にするために試行錯誤を繰り返し、ひとつひとつ自分で決めながら進めていかねばなりません。これまで、芸術は文化的なものであり、経済とは関係ないと思われていました。 現在、芸術は科学、数学、技術と同じグループの一部と見なされています。 この力は、子どもたちの将来の成功にも大変重要です。 京都聖母学院小学校では、図工の授業を通してこの力を磨きます。 アートフェスティバルは、子どもたちの力を見ていただく貴重な機会です。 今年もご覧いただけたでしょうか？ きっと子どもたちの作品の素晴らしさに驚かれると思います。
